What accreditation is for

ISO/IEC 17025 addresses laboratory competence, impartiality and consistent operation. Accreditation provides an external assessment for activities within a defined scope. It is evidence about the laboratory’s work, not a blanket endorsement of every product whose seller displays the logo. ISO: laboratory competence.

Read the scope as well as the certificate

The certificate identifies the laboratory and accreditation. The scope describes the covered testing activities. Both matter: the lab name, location, status, sample type and method must be relevant to the work you are evaluating.

How to check Vanguard

Vanguard publishes its A2LA certificate and scope on its website. Open the current documents and confirm the laboratory identity and location. Then check the specific activity rather than relying on the badge shown on a storefront. Vanguard: accreditation certificate and scope.

• Match the laboratory on the COA with the certificate.
• Check the current status and document dates.
• Find the relevant methods and sample types in the scope.
• Read report footnotes for out-of-scope or subcontracted work.
• Ask the issuing laboratory if a particular result’s accreditation status is unclear.

Four different questions

What the logo cannot tell you

It does not prove every vial was individually sampled, that a report belongs to a later restock, or that a research product is medically approved. A certificate also does not replace a missing result. If a batch is marked pending, the laboratory’s accreditation cannot turn that pending entry into a pass.

Our batch assessment uses the issued report and its actual scope. Ask about a specific method or report number when you need clarification; “Is the lab accredited?” is only the starting question.
