Lyophilized Peptides Explained: Powder, Appearance and Storage

What lyophilization does

Freeze-drying removes water from a frozen preparation under reduced pressure. The resulting dry material may form a porous cake, loose powder or fragments. Drying is a preservation step; it is not, by itself, purification, sterilization or proof of identity.

Why two cakes can look different

Inspect for seal damage, leakage or unexpected changes, but use the measured quantity and analytical results to assess the contents. A visual estimate cannot replace those measurements.

Why dry material still needs care

Residual moisture and counterions can contribute to gross dry mass. Peptides also differ in stability: oxidation or other chemical changes can occur depending on sequence, environment and time. Our unopened dry-vial storage guidance

• Refrigerate at 2–8°C for short-term storage on arrival.
• For longer storage, −20°C or below is preferred.
• Keep the vial sealed and protected from light and moisture.
• Avoid repeated temperature cycling.
• Let a cold vial reach room temperature while still sealed before opening to reduce condensation.

These instructions concern unopened lyophilized vials, not BAC Water or prepared solutions. Compound-specific information and the label take priority over a generic assumption. These temperatures do not establish an expiry date.

What a warm parcel tells you

A parcel that feels warm does not reveal its full temperature history or the remaining quality of its contents. Brief ambient transport and prolonged heat exposure are different situations. Stability depends on the compound and conditions; we do not infer a guaranteed shelf life from a delivery temperature.

Store the unopened vials appropriately on arrival. If the package was unusually hot, delayed or damaged, document the delivery and contact us with the order and lot details. Do not treat an earlier COA as a record of later transit conditions.
